Despite the lack of a strict definition, theorists agree on one thing: autofiction is a hybrid genre that blends autobiographical and fictional events narrated in the first person. The autofiction wave is becoming one of the mainstream trends in the global book market. The expansion of the genre can be seen not only in literature, but also in comics, photo novels and cinema. New genre hybrids are being created based on its model, blending fiction with a deliberately factual discourse. Larisa Muraveva’s lecture will explore: the origins of the autofiction concept; the stages of its development in contemporary French literature; and how autofiction is becoming a space which prepares the further exploration of the territory of fiction.
